In the past, the Spectre and Corrigan had a chilly, but efficient, working relationship. The story was written by Frank Tieri, illustrated by Serg Acuña, colored by Matt Herms and lettered by Troy Peteri.Īs noted earlier, Jim Corrigan was once host for the Spectre–and now, with Dark Crisis raging across the DC Universe, Corrigan has re-bonded with it, but this time around things might be different. As the story ends, Corrigan and the Spectre are again one and the same, and Corrigan hints that he and the Spectre both are in for rough times. While Corrigan distracts the Spectre, Raven weakens the entity, allowing Corrigan to re-bond with it. The Spectre resists him and Corrigan realizes how deep Pariah’s control runs. Corrigan decides to sacrifice himself once again, this time to save humanity he plans to bond with the Spectre again, reasoning that a human host will anchor it, and make it see that what it is doing is wrong. Corrigan is horrified at what the Spectre has become, noticing that it is toying with the heroes it is fighting, taking cruel pleasure in torturing them. In the story “Just When I Thought I Was Out,” Jim Corrigan, free from the Spectre’s influence for a few years, bears witness to an enormous battle between the surviving heroes and Pariah’s Dark Army–including the Spectre.
